Going to University whilst in an IVA
I am currently in my second year of an IVA. I am working part time and am at college part time. I have applied to and hope to start university in September doing a nursing degree. However i am finding things extremely tight financially at the moment and assume when i go to uni, that money will become even more scarce. What help can i get? As i am now in my 40's delaying university is not really an option, as it is a 3 year course and completing it would put me at 50 and make it more difficult finding employment in my chosen career. Any help/advice would be really appreciated

Hi Julie, thanks for your question. I have passed your query onto the IVA supervisory team and we should have an answer for you soon.

It is a very difficult situation that you are in, whilst it is admirable that you wish to better yourself with further qualifications and a new career, you are at risk of jeopardising the affordability of your arrangement.
Your IVA was proposed based on your circumstances at that time, working full time. You now work part time and have committed to further education which indicates that you are not going to be in the position to increase your earning potential during the remaining term of your IVA.
Considering that you are struggling now to afford your IVA contribution, (which has been noted as the most minimal amount that would be agreeable to creditors) then it is likely if money becomes more scarce that the IVA will no longer be the solution for you and instead you may have to consider bankruptcy.
It is clear you have a big decision to make, if you feel it is a priority to pursue further education and a career change then it appears that it will sacrifice your IVA.
Whatever your decision is, it is important to keep your Supervisor updated. -
